The Georgia Department of Labor has released the unemployment numbers for March and while there is a significant increase in the numbers, overall, in Dade numbers are relatively low.
The unemployment rate for the Northwest Georgia Region as a whole was 4.2% in March, one of the higher numbers seen in the past 13 months for the region. In Dade, for March the county ended with an unemployment rate of 3.9%.
One-hundred and eighty-one initial claims for unemployment were filed in March, with the year-to-date total of initial claims sitting at 216. Unemployment benefits paid in Dade totaled $10,006 for March and year-to-date total $25,639. The March total is almost a fourth of total benefits paid to those in Dade in 2019 which ended the year at $116,864. An average benefit payment in Dade is $233 with payments being made for an average of 3.7 weeks. Twenty-one first payments were paid in March out of a year-to-date total of 38 first payments.
