Shirley Sullivan Russell, 78, of Trenton, died on Monday, June 15, 2020.

Shirley was born on October 13, 1941 to the late Marshall, Sr., & Jewell Sullivan, was a 1960 graduate of Dade County High School and attended Trenton United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Troy, Marshall, Jr., Max, & Terry Sullivan, and sister, Charlotte Bice.

Survivors include her husband of 56 ½ years, Robert “Smokey” Russell; grandchildren, Maddie Hughes & Christian Smith; eleven nieces & nephews; special friend, Lanny York.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Sullivan & Rev. Reese Fauscett officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

BRYANT, AL: Ollie Arlen Taylor, age 83, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020. He was of the Church of God faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.


He was preceded in death by his son Dennis Ray Taylor; parents Rolen and Frances Taylor; sister Hazel Taylor Dodson.


Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years Ann Taylor; daughter Nannetta0. (Steve) Taylor Smith, Bryant; son Mike (Mashonda) Taylor, Bryant; two grandchildren Cody Sullins Taylor and Shane Taylor Sullins; sister Margaret Taylor, Bryant; brothers Leroy Taylor, Bryant and Gary Taylor, Jasper, TN; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM EDT Wednesday, June 17, 2020 in the Bryant Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Swanner officiating. Burial will follow in Bryant Free Holiness Cemetery.


Visitation will be Tuesday June 16, 2020 4:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM EDT; Wednesday 10:00 AM ~ 1:00 PM EDT.

Lavonne Marie (Payne) Grizzle of Rising Fawn, GA passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020.  She was born in Rising Fawn July 12, 1948. She was a graduate of Dade County High School, class of 1966, and received her Associate’s degree from Hiwassee College in 1968. It was at Hiwassee that she met the love of her life, Steve Grizzle. Lavonne and Steve were married August 29, 1969, and were happily married 47 years until his death in 2017.

Lavonne spent most of her working career as a faithful employee of the Southern Company. In her spare time and after her retirement, she and Steve enjoyed hunting together and traveling around the country. Lavonne was an avid gardener and loved planting flowers and working in her yard. She also spent much time designing and outfitting her “Strawberry House” and showed it off to anyone who came to visit. She was a member of Trenton United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  One of Lavonne’s greatest loves was being an aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. They brought her such joy and she treated each one as if they were her own. She was loved by so many and she will be greatly missed.

Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents W.C. and Doris Payne of Rising Fawn and her husband Steve Grizzle.

She is survived by sisters Lorraine (David) Fox and Maureen (Grady) Spencer; brother Roy (Dorothy) Payne, several nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service (immediate family only due to Covid) on Saturday, June 13, 2020 officiated by Dr. Rob Couch.
