Valerie Hawkins Hicks, age 44, of Trenton, GA passed away early Tuesday morning, March 26, 2019. Mrs. Hicks enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies and Papa Steve. She was of the Church of Christ faith. Mrs. Hicks was formerly employed at Skyline Power Equipment and York’s Small Engine. She attended Dade County High School, Class of 1993.


Preceded in death by her father Bufford Hawkins; grandparents Emmitt and Sarah Bruce and Buddy and Mattie Hawkins.


Surviving include her daughters Nikki Hicks and Ashley Hicks of Trenton, GA; grandchildren Errie Hicks, Charlee Smith, Aiden Smith, Dallas Hicks and Hurshel Hicks; mother Liz Hawkins of Trenton, GA; special boyfriend Papa Steve Rachels of Chattanooga, TN; sister Lisa (Randy) York of Trenton, GA; brothers Houston Hawkins and Wayne Hawkins of Trenton, GA; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 27, 2019 in the chapel with Preacher Lee Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Sarah’s Chapel Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday at the Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton, GA.

Mary Ellen Bradford Gilley, 76 of Bridgeport, AL, passed away March 26, 2019 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. Mary was the daughter of the late Hayes and Eula Westbrook Bradford, born October 5, 1942 in Altamont, TN. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude William Gilley, Sr; grandson Chris Gilley, and 5 brothers and sisters.


Survivors include her children: Claude Gilley, Jr. of Bridgeport, AL, Carol Headrick of Flat Rock, AL, Steve Gilley of Jasper, TN, David (Angela) Gilley of Bridgeport, AL, Timmy (Kathleen) Gilley of Stevenson, AL, Shiryl Godsby of South Pittsburg, TN, Elisha (Billy) Middlebrooks of Flat Rock, AL; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.


Visitation will be Wednesday, 5-9 PM at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 28, at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel.

Kathleen Mathis Jenkins, 58, of Trenton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at her residence.


Kathleen was employed by Larry’s Restaurant and was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lamar Jenkins, father, Edward Mathis, sister, Patricia Mathis-Wilson, & brother, Jake Edward Mathis.


Survivors include her children, Thomas McCurter, Jr., Sarah McCurter, Shawn McCurter, & Travis Jenkins, all of Trenton, GA; grandchildren, Kasheilia McCurter, Lexie McCurter, Christopher McCurter, Dallas Scholl, & Brantley McCurter; mother, Pauline Willford; siblings, Edward “Hank” Mathis, Rose Mathis, Alexander “CoCo” Thompson, Brandy Thompson, Josh Thompson, Willie Mathis, Christine, Betty Ann, Betty Jean, Lorene, & Vickie; several nieces and nephews.
